Send a password-protected message
Need to send something sensitive to someone on Gmail, Outlook, or any other provider? Protect it with a password — they open it through a secure link, and the contents never travel in the plain email.
Write your message
Compose as normal — add the recipient, a subject, and your message. (New to composing? See Compose & send an email.)
Turn on encryption
Enable Encrypt for external recipient. When it's on you'll see “Encryption on — recipient opens a secure link”: instead of the message body, the email carries a short notice and a link to the encrypted content.
Set a password
On send, fjell.email asks for a Secure message password. As the app puts it: “The recipient needs this password to open the message. Share it with them separately — it is never sent in the email.” Enter it twice to confirm. You can optionally set an expiry in days, after which the message can no longer be opened.
Share the password out of band
Tell the recipient the password through a different channel — a text, a call, in person. Sending it in the same email (or a reply) would defeat the protection.
What the recipient sees
They receive a normal-looking email with a secure link. Opening it and entering the password reveals your message — no fjell.email account required. It works for anyone, on any provider.
Password-protected message vs. Easy Encryption: a password-protected message is for reaching people outside fjell.email. Easy Encryption protects your own stored mail. They're complementary — use whichever fits.
