Save your recovery phrase
Easy Encryption protects your mail with a key only you hold. Your 12-word recovery phrase is the backup of that key — save it well and you can always get back in. Here's how to set it up.
Start Easy Encryption
Go to Settings → Encryption and begin Easy Encryption setup. You don't need any PGP knowledge — fjell.email generates and manages the keys for you.
Confirm your login password
You'll re-enter your normal login password. This ties your encryption key to your account and unlocks the next step.
Write down the 12 words
fjell.email shows a 12-word recovery phrase. Write it down on paper, in order, and keep it somewhere safe and offline — a drawer or a password manager, not a sticky note on your screen. Anyone with these words can restore your encrypted mail, so treat them like a key.
Confirm you saved it
To make sure the phrase is recorded correctly, fjell.email asks you to re-enter a few of the words. Once that matches, Easy Encryption is active.
Why this matters: your recovery phrase is the only way to recover encrypted mail if you ever forget your password. fjell.email can't recover it for you — that's the point of end-to-end encryption. If you lose both your password and the phrase, encrypted messages can't be read.
