Search your mailbox
Find any message fast — by who sent it, who it went to, the subject, or words in the body. Here's how search works and what its coverage note means.
Open search
Tap the search icon at the top of your mail list. A search box appears with the prompt Search mail….
Type what you're looking for
Enter a name, address, a word from the subject, or a phrase you remember from the message. Results appear as you type — pick the one you want to open it.
Understand the coverage note
You'll see a small note: “Full-text search covers messages saved on this device. Older mail is matched on sender, recipient and subject only.” That's the honest, deliberate behaviour:
- Recent mail on this device is searched in full — including the message body — right on your device, so your mail contents aren't exposed to the server.
- Older mail that isn't cached locally is still matched, but on sender, recipient, and subject — so a body-only phrase from years ago might not surface.
Scroll through your mailbox to pull older messages onto the device, and they become full-text searchable too.
Open a result
Tap any result to open the message. From there you can reply, forward, file it to a folder, or jump into the whole thread.
Why body search runs on your device: fjell.email is built so your message contents stay private. Full-text matching happens locally rather than by handing your mail to a server index — the coverage note is the honest trade-off that keeps that promise.
