Connect a mail client with an app password

Want to use fjell.email in Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or another IMAP client? Create an app password — a separate credential just for that app, so your main login stays private and you can cut off any one device without changing your password.

  1. Open App Passwords

    In webmail or the Android app, go to Settings → App Passwords and tap Create app password.

  2. Name it after the device

    Give the password a Label that says where it's used — e.g. iPhone Mail or Thunderbird laptop. One label per device or app makes it easy to revoke just that one later.

  3. Copy the password now

    fjell.email generates a random password and shows it once. Copy it straight away — for security it's never displayed again. If you lose it, just delete it and create a new one.

  4. Enter the server settings in your mail app

    Add a new account in your mail client using these settings. Your username is your full @fjell.email address, and the password is the app password you just copied.

    • Incoming (IMAP): mx1.fjell.email, port 993, SSL/TLS.
    • Outgoing (SMTP): mx1.fjell.email, port 465, SSL/TLS.
    • Username: your full address, e.g. you@fjell.email.
    • Password: the app password (not your normal login).

    Thunderbird and Apple Mail can often discover these automatically from your address — if prompted, just confirm they match the values above.

  5. Revoke a device any time

    Back on the App Passwords screen, each entry has a Revoke action. Revoking one immediately signs out only that device or app — the rest keep working, and your main password is untouched. Do this if a device is lost or you stop using an app.

Tip: app passwords are the only way third-party mail clients sign in — fjell.email never asks them for your real password. Encryption features (Easy Encryption / password-protected messages) live in the fjell.email apps and webmail; a plain IMAP client shows the raw message.
